1996年くらいからの女性R&Bブームの集大成 2005年以降でもJUJUとか青山テルマとか出て来た一方でAKBの大量投入で この辺が完全駆逐されてしまった

I don't get it when you say they sound old. Just listen to it while you bear in mind the sense of standards that they had at that time. I don't think there's anyone who'd listen to '60s songs now and compare it with our current standards.

Kuraki's side just wanted to set themselves up as the rival of massively profitable Utada one-sidedly. It was like how the Monkees felt they were the competitors of the Beatles. Regardless of whether you can compose songs or not. And that's why you can't hide that sense of lameness away from Kuraki. I liked them both, though.

宇多田と比べるなら浜崎だな

Kuraki just doesn't stand a chance, both in sales and ability. She was bad at singing, and her voice was so small, she shouldn't have been a singer in the first place. If you want to compare someone to Utada, it should be Hamasaki.

小室ブームの終焉と共に消えるかと思ったがこの人が本当に
歌手として真価を発揮したのはむしろ小室と決別した後
同じavexでも浜崎とか幸田なんて所詮は流行モノだったんだな

And compared to these 2, you can not help but be amazed at how stable Amuro has been. People thought that she'd disappear along with the end of the Komuro boom, but she actually proved her worth much more when she was separated from Komuro. Even if she's from Avex too, it just goes to show that Hamasaki and Koda were nothing more than mere fads.

なんで倉木みたいな有象無象の一人と比較するのか分からん どっちも好きだけど毎度のことながらこの対立構造はナゾだわ

声量音域テクともに宇多田が勝ってるとは思う 倉木は音域テクはあるのだけど声量がなかった しかしウイスパーボイスという 新しいポジションを確立するに至ったのはすばらしい
I think Utada wins when it comes to the volume, vocal range, and technique. Kuraki might have the range and the technique, but she's got no volume. But I think she's amazing for establishing this new method called "whisper voice".

宇多田もcan you keep a secretあたりでピークだったし グレード的には倉木と大差ないな それよりも宇多田は病んで人間活動しますで一線退いてるから もう音楽人としてまた再活動するかもわからない状態
Utada peaked at "Can You Keep a Secret", and grade-wise, she wasn't that different from Kuraki. But Utada seems to have gotten sick of it and just said that she's going to do normal life stuff, so we actually don't know if she'll be coming back again in the field of music.

Her songwriting style changed a bit at that time because of Kazu Kiriya's influence on her, and I personally don't like it. For me, "Can You Keep a Secret" was her peak.

Can You Keep A Secret?はHEROとの相性最高だったな ドラマの引きと曲の入り方が絶妙だった
"Can You Keep A Secret?" matched perfectly well with HERO. The way the episode would come to a close and how the song would come in was perfect.

I definitely thought that I would hear Utada's song at the ending of the HERO movie, but it felt too awkward when it just ended normally like that. I thought that the scene would pause at KimuTaku and Takako Matsu's kissing scene and start hearing "Chi-kadzukitaiyo-" at that point.

It's just the percentage of using her as fappage material. I think that only a minority fapped to mustache-girl. And business in the AV world was also in full-swing thanks to actresses who looked like Mai Kuraki. Even someone like Ai Nagase emerged from that, right?
